Have you been pee-ing in the street?

Ha! That one got your attention. I have a sty in my left eye. A painfully swollen, blurred vision making, red, itchy, hurts-to-blink sty in my eye. I used to get them all the time when I was a kid, from peeing in the street. Or so my Grandpa, my mom's dad, would tell me. That's how you got one, so your mom would know you'd pee'd in the street. He was trying to make me laugh, of course. LOVED to make people laugh. That was one reason of many, he had one to match every illness. If you had a canker sore, you'd kissed a fool, is another I remember. He was a funny-guy. (I get my humor from him and my dad.) Always ready with a joke or a silly toy to play with. He always gave gag-gifts, just to make people jolly. He's been gone a long time now, gosh nearly 22 years. My sister never got to know our Grandpa, she often asks me to tell her about him. Every story I tell of him, makes me smile. I hope that's how people remember me one day...with a smile.

Off and running

Today I get to spend a whole day with my hubby. Get him all to myself. We get to go to Missoula today kid-free, woo-hoo! Sometimes, when you've become parents, you need to get away together to remember why you fell in love. Don't get me wrong, I know I love him, tons in fact. Life just gets so busy and kid-centered, that it seems, you need to re-group and find yourselves again. Will be fun. He and I really enjoy shopping, especially when we can do it together. Aaron's never been the guy that you have to drag out kicking and screaming. He actually goes willingly! Get to go to Home Depot and Lowe's to pick out more stuff for our remodeling projects we're doing on the house. And...I get to go to a mall...a REAL mall, with more than 3 good stores! My "home-girls" are you with me??? It's a bummer that I won't get to see one of my very closest of friends, she had other things going and our plans weren't too concrete. I'll miss spending time with ya today Lor! Hope you have fun anyway.
That goes for the rest of you too, I hope that whatever you do, you get to have fun today!

My very own protector of mankind...

You would really have to personally know my almost 5 year old daughter to understand how awesome this story is. Lexi is such a sweet girl. Always looking out for her brother and 2 little cousins, (she's the oldest grandchild on both sides!). The other day while at karate class a little boy decided to "bust a move" on one of Lexi's little girlfriends, who happened to be standing next to her. Lexi grabbed Josie, gave her a big hug and moved her to the opposite side. Then turned to that little boy and gave him quite a look and continued on with her class. After class, when she and I were walking out to the car and she gave me her view of the story, (not knowing I'd watched the whole thing for myself with a swelled heart). She looked at me and said, "Mom, I think I'm the protector of all the little kids in the world." I just replied, that's right honey, fearing if I said more I'd start to cry. Ya know how when you think you have a name for the child growing within you, you look it up to see what it means and hope your child lives up to that expectation? I wanted to look her name up again, becuase I had, of course forgotten the meaning from naming her nearly 5 years ago. Well, while I was on the phone with my best friend yesterday, she looked up Alexis on her computer. Here it is, Alexis - Protector of the world's mankind. Isn't that cool? Ya know what else is strange about it? This isn't the first time she's told me she wanted to be a protector for kids, no kidding. Lord, thank you for the special gift that IS my Lexi, let me bring her up in such a way that she will keep this kindness and sincere way within her heart forever.

Today is a quiet day

Today I am not my regular, bubbly, happy self. We got a lot of bad news this week. A neighbor lady, whom I have known well since I was 7 passed away. She was old, she had been sick, was probably for the best. Yesterday a good friend of my husband's also died. He went into the hospital Tuesday and died of respitory failure from complications with pankriatitis, (sp?). Then, last night I received a call from my Aunt that my grandfather had passed away. I have not seen him for many years, but still sent him cards at Christmas so had a little contact. He was a good man and will be missed. Has been an emotionally draining week. When I was crying yesterday after I heard about my grandfather all my kids did was hug me. Sure made me feel better.
I'm ready for this week to be over, with no more bad news, so I can get on to next week and have a good one again!
